Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched its 67th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) and the STAR Scholarship Program in Aizawl, Mizoram. This initiative, in collaboration with the Government of Mizoram and Zote Toyota, aims to improve the skills of local students, especially those from rural areas. The goal is to help them secure jobs in the growing automotive sector.

Enhancing Skills for a Growing Industry

The T-TEP program is designed for final-year ITI and diploma students. It combines classroom training with hands-on experience at Toyota dealerships. Students will learn about Mechanic Motor Vehicle and Diesel Mechanic Trades. This approach will provide them with the technical skills required to succeed in the automotive industry.

STAR Scholarship: Supporting Economically Disadvantaged Students

Alongside T-TEP, the STAR Scholarship Program helps students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds by covering expenses such as tuition fees and hostel costs. This support allows students to focus on their education without the worry of financial constraints. So far, over 13,000 students have participated in T-TEP, with more than 70% securing jobs in the automotive sector.

Zote Toyota’s Key Role in T-TEP

Zote Toyota, a local dealership, plays a key role in the success of the program. They provide students with practical, on-the-job training, helping them apply their knowledge in real-world situations. Mr. Zorammawia Tochhawng, Dealer Principal of Zote Toyota, stressed the importance of training highly skilled technicians as the automotive industry evolves with new technologies.

Support from Mizoram Government Officials

Mr. Vikram Gulati, Executive Vice President, TKM
“We aim to equip young people with the skills they need to thrive, not just for their own growth, but for India’s future. T-TEP and STAR provide opportunities for students, particularly those from rural areas, to gain industry-relevant skills.”

Mr. Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister of State for Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship
“This initiative will help students gain the technical skills they need for a career in the automotive industry. It will open new doors for young people in Mizoram.”

Expansion Plans for T-TEP Nationwide

TKM has invested over Rs 1.5 million in the program. This includes improving infrastructure, providing equipment, and training faculty at the ITI. The T-TEP program will soon be available in 10 states and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, further expanding opportunities for students across the country.
