The Ministry of Culture has established Kalagram, a cultural village at Maha Kumbh 2025 in Sector-7, Prayagraj, through the North Central Zone Cultural Centre (NCZCC). Designed as a hub of art, tradition, and spirituality, Kalagram brings together performances, exhibitions, and immersive experiences, highlighting India’s diverse heritage.
Key Attractions of Kalagram
- Grand Entrance: A 635 ft-wide, 54 ft-high gateway depicting the 12 Jyotirlingas and the story of Lord Shiva consuming Halahal.
- Main Stage: A 104 ft-wide, 72 ft-deep performance space inspired by the Char Dham pilgrimage.
- Artist and Performance: 14,632 artists will showcase cultural performances on multiple stages, including Kalagram.
- Anubhut Mandapam: A 360° immersive experience narrating the descent of River Ganga from heaven to earth.
- Aviral Shashwat Kumbh: A digital exhibition by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), National Archives of India (NAI), and Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA).
- Food Zone: Featuring Satvik cuisine from all Zonal Cultural Centres along with Prayagraj’s local dishes.
- Sanskriti Angans: 98 artisans from seven Zonal Cultural Centres will display and sell traditional handicrafts and handlooms.
Regional Contributions and Cultural Programmes
- The South Zone Cultural Centre (SZCC), Thanjavur has sent 45 artists from three art forms and six artisans from Karnataka to participate.
- Kalagram was also present at Kumbh Mela 2019, but the 2025 edition expands its scale and diversity.
- To ensure broader access, the Ministry of Culture and NCZCC are uploading event content on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
Theatre and Folk Arts Promotion
- NCZCC Prayagraj and South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur are organising cultural events across their respective states, including Sidhi, Madhya Pradesh.
- Sangeet Natak Akademi invited Rangdoot and Indravati Natya Samiti, two major theatre groups from Sidhi, for Amrit Yuva Kalotsav performances in Bhopal and Lucknow.
- SCZCC Nagpur featured Indravati Natya Samiti in the Eklavya-Bagheli Theatre presentation at Shilpgram, Khajuraho.
Kalagram at Maha Kumbh 2025 offers a unique blend of cultural heritage, artistic performances, spiritual themes, and immersive storytelling, making it a key attraction of the event.
