A three-day International Bird Festival will be organised in Prayagraj from 16-18 February 2025, coinciding with Mahakumbh 2025. The event will showcase over 200 species of migratory and local birds, aiming to promote environmental conservation and biodiversity. The festival will provide a platform for nature lovers, ornithologists, and conservationists to study bird species and discuss their preservation.
The festival will feature birdwatching sessions, competitions, and educational activities. Events such as photography, painting, slogan writing, debates, and quizzes will be held to encourage awareness. Experts, including national and international ornithologists and environmentalists, will conduct discussions and technical sessions to highlight key conservation strategies.
To facilitate participation, the Forest Department has provided a WhatsApp contact number (9319277004) for further information. Cash prizes worth ₹21 lakhs, ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹5 lakhs, will be awarded to winners of various competitions.
Bird Species to Be Featured
Visitors will have the opportunity to observe rare and endangered birds, including the Indian Skimmer, Flamingo, and Siberian Crane. Thousands of migratory birds from Siberia, Mongolia, and Afghanistan have already arrived at the Ganga-Yamuna banks in Prayagraj, making it a key attraction for birdwatchers.
Eco-Tourism and Conservation Efforts
A special eco-tourism initiative has been planned, allowing devotees and tourists to participate in birdwatching tours and guided nature walks. Experts will explain bird behaviour, migration patterns, and ecological significance during these sessions. The event aims to highlight the role of bird conservation in maintaining ecological balance and disaster management.
Additionally, cultural programmes, street plays, and art exhibitions will be held to raise awareness about bird conservation. Discussions will cover topics such as climate change, habitat protection, and the impact of human activities on avian life.
Significance of the Festival
The International Bird Festival will serve as an educational opportunity for students, researchers, and environmentalists, offering insights into ornithology and biodiversity conservation. It is expected to attract a wide range of visitors, including devotees attending Mahakumbh 2025, making it a significant event for both environmental awareness and cultural appreciation.
The festival is part of a broader effort to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility, ensuring that future generations understand the importance of biodiversity conservation.
