Navi Mumbai’s long-awaited international airport is finally ready to take off, with the official opening set for May 15, 2025. After years of construction and regulatory hurdles, the airport is poised to ease the pressure on Mumbai’s already congested air traffic, offering both domestic and international connectivity.
The development of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is a major step in addressing the growing demand for air travel in the region. The airport has already received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), clearing the way for its inaugural flight. Initially, it will handle 10 to 12 million passengers annually, with plans to increase this capacity in the future.
The project, a joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and CIDCO, will include state-of-the-art facilities and promises to enhance connectivity for millions of passengers. By 2028, Terminal 2 is expected to handle up to 30 million passengers, making it a critical addition to Mumbai’s aviation infrastructure.
With Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport running at full capacity, the opening of NMIA is set to significantly improve the city’s air travel options and fuel economic growth in the region.
