In a remarkable feat for India’s leading commodity derivatives exchange, Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), a record turnover of ₹59,090.82 crores was achieved on February 25, 2025, in various futures and option contracts. The turnover breakdown shows that commodity futures accounted for ₹12,811.89 crores, while options on commodity futures contributed ₹46,277.29 crores (notional).

A major highlight was the outstanding performance in GOLD Mini options contracts, which saw a record turnover of ₹51,149 crores on February 24. This surge reflects growing trader interest in hedging, especially amidst the ongoing volatility in gold prices.

In the bullion market, GOLD Apr-25 futures rose by 0.29%, reaching ₹86,430 per 10 grams, while SILVER Mar-25 futures saw a 0.33% increase, trading at ₹95,399 per kilogram. Additionally, the Bullion Index MCXBULLDEX Mar-25 futures stood at ₹20,570, indicating strong market confidence in precious metals.

Base metal futures also saw robust trading, with COPPER Feb-25 rising by 0.17% to ₹862.80 per kilogram, while ZINC Feb-25 slightly dipped by 0.15% to ₹267.15 per kilogram. Crude oil also showed promising results, with CRUDEOIL Mar-25 futures up by 0.47%, trading at ₹6,179 per barrel, and NATURALGAS Feb-25 futures up by 1.04%, reaching ₹350.60 per MMBTU.

Options trading saw impressive action across multiple commodities. Among Crude Oil options, the most traded Call Option for the Mar-25 contract at ₹6,200 was up by 7.82%, with significant volume. Similarly, Natural Gas options saw substantial activity, with Call Options at ₹350 showing a 9.53% increase.

This exceptional performance underscores the growing interest and confidence in the Indian commodity markets, reflecting the rising demand for hedging instruments and derivatives trading.
