India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, has criticised leaders in Bangladesh for consistently blaming India for their country’s problems. Speaking at a public event in New Delhi, Jaishankar described the accusations as “absolutely ridiculous,” noting the contradiction of Bangladesh’s calls for good relations with India while also blaming the country for every misfortune. He further emphasised that Bangladesh needs to clarify the kind of relationship it wants with India.
Jaishankar also pointed out two key issues in the strained bilateral ties: the rise in attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, particularly Hindus, and the ongoing domestic political instability. India has repeatedly raised concerns over the attacks on Hindus, especially after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s departure. The ongoing tensions highlight the complexities in the India-Bangladesh relationship.
Jaishankar’s remarks reflect the growing frustration in India over Bangladesh’s continued hostile messaging. He urged Bangladesh to make a clear decision about its future relations with India.
