A total of 942 personnel from the police, fire services, home guard, civil defence, and correctional services were honoured with gallantry and service medals on Republic Day 2025.
Gallantry Medals
Ninety-five gallantry medals were awarded, including 78 to police personnel and 17 to fire service members. These medals recognise rare or conspicuous acts of bravery in saving lives, protecting property, preventing crime, or apprehending criminals.
Among the recipients, 28 personnel served in Left-Wing Extremism areas, 28 in Jammu & Kashmir, three in the North-East, and 36 in other regions.
Service Medals
The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (101 awards) was presented for exceptional service records, while the Medal for Meritorious Service (746 awards) recognised dedication and resourcefulness.
