Free Eye Tests for Glaucoma Patients
Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital in Mumbai is offering free glaucoma consultations. The initiative runs from March 5 to March 21 as part of World Glaucoma Week. It aims to spread awareness about early detection and treatment.
World Glaucoma Week is observed globally from March 10 to 16. The 2025 theme, “See the Future Clearly,” highlights the need for early detection. The hospital’s free check-ups include intraocular pressure tests and optic nerve evaluations. Patients diagnosed with glaucoma will receive counseling on treatment options.
Why Early Detection Matters
Glaucoma damages the optic nerve and often shows no symptoms. It affects around 80 million people worldwide. In India, nearly 12 million suffer from the disease. Late diagnosis leads to vision loss in 10% of cases.
Risk factors include high intraocular pressure, age over 40, diabetes, and family history. Regular check-ups help in early diagnosis.
Advanced Treatment Options Available
Treatment includes eye drops, laser therapy, and surgery. Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) is a new technique. It lowers intraocular pressure with fewer complications.
Dr Vandana Jain, Chief Strategy Officer at the hospital, stressed the importance of early detection. She urged individuals over 40 and those with risk factors to get tested.
