National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh is all set to explore a new side of her acting abilities with Netflix’s upcoming gangster drama, Akka. The actress will play Bhavani, a powerful woman whose life revolves around legacy, loyalty and the responsibility of protecting her kingdom. The series is scheduled to premiere on October 30, 2026, promising a story filled with power struggles, intense rivalries and difficult choices.
Known for her memorable performances in films such as Mahanati, Saani Kaayidham and Dasara, Keerthy has built a reputation for taking on diverse roles. However, playing a female gangster presented her with a completely new challenge. Speaking about the experience, the actress said, “Before Akka, I didn’t know I could play a female gangster.”
Set in Pernuru, Akka introduces viewers to a world where women have ruled and protected their territory for generations. Here, power is closely connected to family heritage, loyalty and the ability to defend what has been built over time. Within this setting, Bhavani emerges as a commanding figure who must protect her legacy while facing circumstances that challenge her authority.
For Keerthy, Bhavani is more than a strong character who holds power over others. The character’s complexity comes from the difficult decisions she must make when her position and the future of her kingdom are at stake. Describing her role, the actress said, “Bhavani is a woman who knows what she stands for and will go to great lengths to protect her legacy.”
She further explained what makes the character interesting, adding, “What makes her interesting is that beneath her strength and authority are choices that are never easy, especially when the stakes are so high.”
While Bhavani is determined to preserve the established order in Pernuru, her journey becomes increasingly complicated with the arrival of Rudra, played by Radhika Apte. An outsider with ambitions and beliefs that challenge the existing system, Rudra brings a new threat to the kingdom. Her presence creates a clash between opposing ideas of power and raises questions about loyalty, control and the future of Pernuru.
As tensions grow, the conflict between Bhavani and Rudra becomes central to the story. Their rivalry goes beyond a simple struggle for authority, placing the kingdom’s long-standing traditions and future at risk. With loyalties being tested and difficult decisions becoming unavoidable, Bhavani must confront the consequences of protecting a legacy that has shaped generations.
Written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, Akka is produced by YRF Entertainment. The series also features Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar and Monica Panwar in significant roles, bringing together an ensemble cast for the upcoming drama.
With Keerthy Suresh stepping into the unfamiliar territory of a female gangster and Radhika Apte portraying a challenger to the established order, Akka aims to bring together strong characters and a layered story about power, tradition and ambition.
The Netflix series premieres on October 30, 2026, and will introduce audiences to the world of Pernuru, where defending a legacy may come at a price.
