In a decisive move, President Donald Trump has directed the Department of Justice (DOJ) to terminate all remaining U.S. attorneys appointed during Joe Biden’s administration. This action aims to “clean house” and restore public confidence in the justice system, which Trump asserts was heavily politicized under his predecessor.
Traditionally, incoming administrations request resignations from holdover U.S. attorneys; however, Trump’s approach is notably abrupt. Several Biden-appointed prosecutors had already resigned in anticipation of this transition.
This overhaul follows recent internal conflicts within the DOJ, including the resignation of high-profile prosecutors from the Southern District of New York. These departures were in protest of perceived political interference in cases involving prominent figures, such as New York Mayor Eric Adams.
