The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Maharashtra’s Konkan and Marathwada regions, forecasting rain and thunderstorms from March 31. This weather change is expected to provide relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions.
Rain forecast for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad
While no specific alert has been issued for Mumbai, the city, along with Thane and Raigad, may experience light showers and thunderstorms in the coming days. The IMD attributes this shift to a developing weather system over the Arabian Sea. Residents are advised to stay updated with local forecasts and take necessary precautions.
Heatwave conditions to subside
Maharashtra has been experiencing intense heat, with temperatures soaring above normal levels. The anticipated rainfall is expected to bring down temperatures, offering much-needed relief to residents. These pre-monsoon showers are attributed to increased moisture incursion from the sea.
Precautionary measures advised
The IMD advises residents to stay updated with official weather reports and exercise caution during thunderstorms, especially due to the possibility of lightning strikes. Light rainfall may cause waterlogging in some areas, so planning travel accordingly is recommended.
April weather outlook
The weather department suggests that light rain spells could continue into early April. However, temperatures are expected to rise again post-rainfall. The IMD will continue monitoring the system and update alerts as necessary.
