Over 7.5 lakh employees covered under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) may soon receive a significant boost in their monthly pension. The central government is reportedly reviewing proposals to increase the minimum monthly pension amount.
Currently, many pensioners receive as little as ₹1,000 per month. Discussions are underway to raise this amount to ₹3,000 or more. If approved, this change could provide major financial relief to retired workers across India. However, a final decision and official notification are still awaited.
At the same time, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made it easier for users to manage their EPF accounts. Members can now check their balance and withdraw money online more easily, without the need for extra paperwork.
How to check EPF balance in minutes
EPF members can check their balance using four simple methods:
- UMANG App: Login and select the EPFO service
- EPFO Member Portal: Use your UAN and password
- SMS: Send “EPFOHO UAN” to 7738299899
- Missed Call: Dial 9966044425 from your registered mobile number
These services are free and available round the clock in multiple Indian languages.
PF withdrawal now easier than ever
The EPFO has simplified the withdrawal process by removing the requirement for a cancelled cheque when applying online. Members can now file claims using their bank account details and Aadhaar verification alone.
In most cases, the PF amount is credited within 7 to 10 working days of approval. If the withdrawal amount is less than ₹50,000 and the PAN is linked, no TDS is deducted.
What’s new for EPF users
- Proposed hike in EPS monthly pension
- No need for cheque in online PF claims
- 24×7 access to EPF balance information
- Faster claim settlement timelines
These changes aim to improve ease of access and reduce delays for EPF subscribers. While the pension hike is still in the proposal stage, the digital improvements are already in place and available to all registered members.
