India’s aviation sector continues to soar. On April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first flight from Hisar to Ayodhya. He also laid the foundation stone for the new terminal building at Hisar Airport in Haryana. The launch is part of India’s broader push to make air travel more affordable and accessible across smaller towns.
The terminal, once complete, is expected to handle 20 lakh passengers per year. The government says this expansion will boost regional connectivity and create new economic opportunities for the people of Haryana and nearby states.
From small towns to soaring stats
The Hisar-Ayodhya flight launch reflects the rapid growth of domestic air travel in India. Just last year, over 15 crore passengers flew within the country — the highest ever in India’s history. PM Modi recently stated that every year sets a new record in air travel demand.
The UDAN scheme, launched in 2017, has played a vital role. It focuses on making regional air travel affordable by connecting tier-2 and tier-3 cities with major hubs. Hisar is the latest example of how this mission is gaining altitude.
A boost for Haryana
In addition to launching the flight and terminal project, the Prime Minister also unveiled several other development initiatives in Yamunanagar. These include a new four-lane elevated road and infrastructure works worth ₹9,700 crore.
He said these projects are aimed at improving connectivity, creating jobs, and raising the standard of living in the region.
Travel, trust & transformation
The civil aviation sector is becoming a pillar of India’s infrastructure. With growing middle-class demand, modernised airports, and increasing direct routes, the sky is no longer the limit — it’s the new normal.
