SVKM’s NMIMS Ahmedabad has marked a major milestone with the launch of academic activities at its newest campus by welcoming the inaugural batch of students to the School of Business Management (SBM). The first orientation programme officially began the academic journey for the institute’s management students and highlighted its vision of preparing future business leaders.
The event was attended by Balendra Amin, Chief Operating Officer of SVKM, and Pragnesh Patel, Additional Chief Operating Officer of SVKM. Their presence reflected the institution’s commitment to establishing the Ahmedabad campus as a leading destination for management education in western India.
Located in one of India’s fastest-growing business and entrepreneurial centres, NMIMS Ahmedabad aims to develop professionals equipped with industry-relevant skills, an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong sense of ethical leadership. The orientation programme introduced students to the university’s academic philosophy, experiential learning approach and values-driven culture, giving them a clear understanding of what to expect during their management education.
Addressing the students, Dr Kiran Kumar Agrawal, Associate Dean of SVKM’s NMIMS Ahmedabad, said the institution is focused on developing ethical, resilient and future-ready leaders capable of succeeding in an increasingly dynamic global business environment.
He said the future of business will be driven by artificial intelligence, innovation, entrepreneurship and strategic thinking. According to him, NMIMS Ahmedabad aims to equip students with the knowledge, practical skills and leadership qualities required to thrive in this rapidly evolving landscape.
The orientation programme also featured several distinguished industry experts and academicians who shared their experiences and encouraged students to embrace continuous learning and responsible leadership from the beginning of their academic journey.
Nayan Parikh, Managing Director of Nayan Parikh & Consultants, addressed the students with his philosophy of “Learn, Unlearn and Relearn.” He emphasised that adaptability is one of the most valuable qualities in today’s fast-changing business world. He encouraged students to remain curious, continuously upgrade their knowledge and stay open to new ideas throughout their careers.
Former Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Suramya Vora spoke about the importance of leadership built on thoughtful decision-making. He urged students to develop the habits of active listening, critical thinking and responsible decision-making, explaining that these qualities are essential for effective leadership in both business and public life.
The final session of the programme was delivered by Dr Hitesh Shukla, Professor and Head of the Department of Business Management at Saurashtra University. His address focused on sustainability, institution-building and creating long-term value for society. He encouraged students to look beyond short-term business success and work towards building organisations that contribute positively to communities and the wider economy.
The launch of the School of Business Management represents an important step in NMIMS Ahmedabad’s growth plans. The institution aims to build a vibrant academic ecosystem that combines classroom learning with industry exposure, innovation, research and global perspectives.
Through collaborations with industry leaders, practical learning opportunities and a strong focus on emerging technologies, the campus seeks to prepare graduates for leadership roles across diverse sectors. The institute also plans to encourage entrepreneurial thinking and innovation while maintaining a strong emphasis on ethics and social responsibility.
