Travelling between Bengaluru and Mangaluru is about to get much easier, thanks to a new expressway project by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The 335 kilometer highway, passing through Hassan, aims to reduce travel time by a whopping 7-8 hours.

Currently, the road journey between Bengaluru and Mangaluru can be long and tiring, especially during the monsoon when landslides and roadblocks make things worse. The upcoming expressway is expected to solve these issues, providing a faster and smoother ride.

The project is being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Karnataka’s Public Works Department (PWD). It will feature four to six lanes, ensuring better traffic flow and safety.

The government began taking steps towards this project last year. In July, tenders were floated to select a consultant for a detailed project report (DPR). By November, nine firms had submitted bids. The final contract is set to be awarded next year, and the chosen firm will have 540 days to complete the DPR.

Construction work is expected to start in 2028, marking a major milestone in Karnataka’s transport infrastructure development.

Once the expressway is operational, it will not only make travel quicker but also improve road safety, reduce congestion, and boost the region’s economy. The smoother connection between Bengaluru, Hassan, and Mangaluru will benefit businesses, tourism, and trade, making this project a game-changer for the state.
