The 28th Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) Postgraduate Convention at Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC), Faridabad, has unveiled the 2.0 Smiling Bharat initiative, aiming to enhance orthodontic awareness and accessibility across India. With a target to screen one lakh patients by mid 2025, the initiative seeks to address malocclusion, a condition affecting 12.5% to 33.3% of school children in India, yet often undiagnosed.
The convention, held between 20-23 February 2025, brought together orthodontic experts, postgraduate students, and researchers under the theme ‘Digital Revolution with Sustainable Orthodontics.’ The event featured keynote lectures, pre-conference courses, panel discussions, table clinics, student paper presentations, a trade exhibition showcasing innovations in orthodontics, and cultural and sports activities.
Digital tools are at the forefront of orthodontics, transforming diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient outcomes. The integration of advanced technology was a key focus, promoting precision and efficiency in treatment approaches. The initiative aligns with the broader goals of the 2.0 Smiling Bharat programme, which is set to boost early diagnosis, preventive care, and digital solutions for better orthodontic outcomes.
Organisers highlighted the convention’s role as a platform for collaboration and learning. The emphasis on sustainability and digital advancements aims to shape the future of orthodontic care, creating lasting impacts, especially in underserved communities. The programme is part of a broader effort to bridge gaps in dental care and education through strategic partnerships and technological integration.
