Mumbai, August 2026: More than 200 members of the SVKM community came together for KARUNA, the annual blood donation drive organised by Kshamata, the Social Responsibility Forum of SVKM’s NMIMS Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy & Technology Management (SPPSPTM), in collaboration with the Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Blood Centre.
The initiative highlighted the importance of extending education beyond academic learning and encouraging students and members of the wider institutional community to participate in activities that contribute to society. Held at the school foyer, the blood donation drive witnessed active participation from students, faculty and staff.
KARUNA provided an opportunity for members of the SVKM community to support the cause of voluntary blood donation while contributing to a wider social responsibility initiative. The strong participation reflected the willingness of the institution’s community to come together for a meaningful cause.
Students played an active role in the event, joining faculty and staff in the blood donation drive. Their participation reinforced the idea that social responsibility can form an important part of the educational experience, allowing students to engage directly with issues that affect communities beyond the classroom.
Digital creator Jayesh Patel also participated in the initiative and extended his support to the campaign. His involvement helped encourage greater awareness and participation in the blood donation drive.
The event was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Jagannath Sahoo, Dean of SPPSPTM, NMIMS. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sahoo emphasised the importance of combining academic education with social responsibility. He noted that educational institutions have a role in helping students understand their responsibilities towards society.
According to Dr. Sahoo, KARUNA helped translate this philosophy into action by providing students, faculty and staff with an opportunity to contribute to an important social cause. He also appreciated the collective participation of the SVKM community and the willingness of donors to contribute through voluntary blood donation.
The blood donation drive was conducted in collaboration with the Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Blood Centre, which facilitated the collection process and provided donors with donor cards following their participation. Donors also received goodies from Dr. Rashel as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the initiative.
The organisers said the drive was aimed at reinforcing the importance of safe and voluntary blood donation. Blood donation initiatives play an important role in supporting healthcare systems by helping maintain adequate supplies for patients who require blood and blood components during medical treatment.
Through KARUNA, Kshamata sought to create a platform where members of the SVKM community could turn the principle of social responsibility into direct action. The initiative also provided students with an opportunity to participate in a community-focused activity alongside faculty and staff.
The participation of more than 200 donors made this year’s KARUNA blood donation drive a significant community initiative at NMIMS SPPSPTM. The event demonstrated how educational institutions can encourage students to look beyond academic responsibilities and participate in activities that benefit society.
By bringing together students, faculty, staff and supporters for voluntary blood donation, KARUNA reinforced the value of collective participation and community engagement. The initiative reflected the broader objective of encouraging socially responsible participation among students and creating awareness about the importance of supporting voluntary blood donation.
With its focus on community contribution, student involvement and social responsibility, KARUNA continues to provide the NMIMS SPPSPTM community with a platform to support an essential healthcare cause while putting the values of service and responsibility into practice.
