Manipal Academy of Higher Education has taken a significant step in its digital journey with the launch of MAGIC, short for MAHE Agentic Intelligent Console. This new initiative signals a shift towards AI-driven transformation across both academic and administrative systems.

Introduced on March 20, 2026, the platform reflects MAHE’s vision of building a smarter, more efficient university ecosystem. Moving beyond traditional digital systems, MAGIC focuses on proactive, intelligent automation designed to support students, faculty, and administrators in real time. It builds on the university’s digital transformation programme launched in 2023, which aimed to modernise institutional workflows.

With this initiative, MAHE plans to deploy more than 50 AI agents over the next two years. These agents will work across academic and administrative domains, helping streamline operations, reduce manual effort, and improve decision-making. The project is being implemented in partnership with global technology leaders such as Microsoft, Salesforce, Deloitte, PwC, and Hitachi, ensuring the platform is scalable and future-ready.

Initially, the platform will introduce five AI agents within the Student Life Cycle Management system. These agents will assist in key academic tasks such as timetable generation, attendance tracking, exam planning, and performance analysis. By automating routine processes, the system allows educators to focus more on teaching and mentoring, while students benefit from faster and more personalised academic support.

Beyond academics, MAGIC will streamline core administrative functions. AI agents will support admissions, procurement, finance, human resources, and student services. This will reduce processing times, improve accuracy, and enhance overall user experience. Prospective students will also benefit from faster application processing and quicker decision-making during admissions.

The platform also introduces AI-powered research assistants that can scan academic databases, summarise complex literature, and suggest relevant citations. This enables researchers to save time and focus on innovation and critical thinking, thereby improving both the quality and speed of academic work.

Another key feature of MAGIC is its round-the-clock AI support system. Students and staff will have access to instant assistance, reducing wait times and improving communication efficiency across departments. Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M D Venkatesh described the initiative as a transformative milestone, emphasising that integrating AI into everyday systems will create a more responsive and intelligent learning environment.

Industry leaders associated with the project have also highlighted the importance of such initiatives, noting that AI-driven platforms have the potential to redefine how universities operate by making them more agile, efficient, and data-driven.

With the launch of MAGIC, MAHE is positioning itself as a global, technology-driven university. The initiative strengthens its digital infrastructure and prepares it for future technologies, including advanced AI and quantum computing. It reflects a broader shift in higher education towards intelligent, automated systems that enhance both learning and administration, setting a benchmark for digitally empowered institutions.
