In a pioneering step to improve citizen-centric policing, the Mumbai Police have teamed up with Imarticus Learning to launch a comprehensive training program aimed at upskilling 40,000 police personnel over the next 11 months. This initiative is a key part of the Mission Karmayogi project, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance the efficiency and professionalism of India’s civil services.
The training program was inaugurated in the presence of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. It is designed to empower police officers with the necessary skills to improve public service and address citizen concerns effectively.
Mission Karmayogi’s role in policing
Under the Mission Karmayogi framework, this program aims to enhance the quality of policing and create a more responsive, empathetic police force. The initiative was first approved by the Maharashtra government in October 2023. It focuses on capacity building, skill development, and continuous learning to help officers better handle their duties in a rapidly evolving society.
The focus of the program will be on improving the professionalism of Mumbai’s police force and strengthening community trust. The initiative is also focused on improving the police’s ability to manage stress and conflict, ensuring better interactions with the public.
Key components of the program
The training initiative is divided into several phases. It begins with discussions among police personnel and the public to identify key challenges and areas for improvement. Following this, 500 selected Master Trainers will undergo a five-day ‘Train the Trainer’ session. This will be followed by a two-day training module for the remaining 40,000 police officers.
Post-training, an impact assessment will be conducted to evaluate the program’s effectiveness and suggest improvements for the future. The overall goal is to equip the police force with the skills to effectively manage public grievances and improve their interactions with the citizens they serve.
Imarticus learning’s contribution
