Samsung R&D Institute India, Bangalore (SRI-B), has launched the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) at Geetha Shishu Shikshana Sangha (GSSS) Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women, Mysore, making it the first women-only engineering college in Karnataka to host the programme. This initiative aims to foster gender inclusivity in STEM and empower future women tech leaders.
The SIC programme, introduced globally in September 2022, is designed to equip students with industry-relevant skills in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data, and Coding & Programming. Developed by Samsung’s global R&D experts, the curriculum blends offline and online training, enabling students to work on real-world projects with mentorship from SRI-B and GSSS Institute faculty.
Samsung has been expanding its SIC reach, enrolling 3,500 students in 2024 compared to 3,000 in 2023. This programme aligns with Samsung’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, including Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, aimed at nurturing India’s future tech workforce.
The collaboration with GSSS Institute ensures students gain hands-on experience, enhancing employability and innovation. The initiative also supports India’s #DigitalIndia and #MakeinIndia campaigns by bridging the digital skills gap and preparing women for the tech industry.
SRI-B has already set up SICs in seven other institutions across Karnataka, including BNM Institute of Technology, Cambridge Institute of Technology, Don Bosco Institute of Technology, KLE Institute of Technology, and RNS Institute of Technology in Bengaluru, as well as IIIT-Kurnool. More than 800 students have been trained through these initiatives, strengthening India’s position as a global tech hub.
