San Francisco – A new global organisation aiming to blend artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR) and cinema has officially taken shape in the United States, and Indian creatives are being invited to play a key role.
The AI/VR Motion Picture Guild™ (AIVR MPG™), launched in San Francisco as a registered non-profit professional association, is designed to support filmmakers, technologists and storytellers working at the intersection of AI, VR and immersive media. Its mission is to provide resources, education and industry recognition as these technologies reshape the art of storytelling.
Among its first initiatives are:
Global AI Filmmaking & Creativity Ecosystem™ (Global AIFC™): A worldwide hub to connect studios, educators and technologists for joint projects and knowledge sharing.
Ethical Standards Council™ (ESC™): A body that will frame guidelines for the responsible use of AI in filmmaking.
AI Meets Cinema interview series, featuring international experts and pioneers who will discuss how AI tools from generative image engines to VR production platforms—are changing the way films are imagined and produced.
Opportunities for India
Guild president Esha Bargate says India’s thriving film and technology sectors make it a natural partner. Says she, “AI/VR filmmaking is a rapidly changing landscape. We need to understand creative ethics, evolving technologies, and industry norms and that’s exactly what the Guild is here to support.”
Membership gives Indian professionals and students access to global networks, collaborative projects, and practical exposure to cutting-edge AI/VR filmmaking techniques. Upcoming programmes include an AI/VR Film Festival and the AI/VR Awards™ 2027, which will showcase projects from around the world.
Industry voices such as Gabe Michael and Studiovity CEO Akshay Kumar Jain believe AI will allow filmmakers to “dream bigger, create smarter, and deliver faster,” while engineer Wilfred Lee highlights how technology is fusing imagination with cinema.
For Indian students, the Guild promises mentorship, workshops and direct involvement in international productions—offering a pathway to careers in the rapidly evolving field of immersive entertainment. Partnerships with Indian studios and AI start-ups are also being explored to create joint ventures and innovation pipelines.
The Guild is now accepting global memberships. More details on joining and upcoming events are available at https://www.aivrmotionpicture.org
