Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar has praised R Madhavan’s latest film GDN and called it “the need of the hour” after watching a special screening of the biographical drama in Chennai. He said the film carries an important message for today’s youth and encouraged students across Tamil Nadu to watch it and take inspiration from the life of legendary inventor and industrialist GD Naidu.

The special private screening was held at the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in Chennai and was attended by several dignitaries, including JCD Prabhakar, Loyola Mani, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, Minister Gilli Sharath and other guests.

Based on the extraordinary journey of GD Naidu, who is often referred to as the “Edison of India”, GDN showcases the life of a self-taught inventor who made significant contributions despite having limited formal education. The film focuses on Naidu’s determination, curiosity and passion for innovation.

After watching the film, Prabhakar said he would formally recommend to the Tamil Nadu government that government school students should be taken to watch GDN. He believes Naidu’s story can inspire young minds and encourage them to develop their skills, think independently and create opportunities for themselves.

“I believe this is a film that will serve as a lesson to all the young people and students of this century who aspire to shape their future, become entrepreneurs, start their own businesses, and live independently by making use of their own intellect,” Prabhakar said.

The Speaker appreciated the efforts of the entire team behind the film and described GDN as a powerful and meaningful piece of work. He said the film’s message of self-reliance is especially important at a time when young people need to focus on knowledge, creativity and their own abilities. Highlighting GD Naidu’s life, Prabhakar said the inventor’s journey proves that success can be achieved through determination, learning and hard work. He called Naidu a genius whose achievements continue to inspire generations.

The Speaker also urged students to look beyond traditional career paths and explore entrepreneurship by using their ideas and skills. According to him, young people should have the confidence to build their own future rather than only depend on existing opportunities.

Directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, GDN stars R Madhavan in the lead role as GD Naidu. The film is produced by Varghese Moolan Pictures and Madhavan’s Tricolour Films, with music by Govind Vasantha. The movie is currently running in theatres across Tamil Nadu and worldwide.
