Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and Ohmium International have signed a strategic MoU to co-develop scalable, Green Hydrogen-based energy solutions, aiming to revolutionise India’s clean energy landscape.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced a collaboration with Bengaluru-based Ohmium International to co-develop integrated hydrogen-powered energy solutions. The move aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and the broader goal of achieving energy independence by 2047 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
Under this agreement, Toyota will contribute its expertise in fuel-cell technology and system integration, while Ohmium will lead the design and development of modular PEM electrolyser-based power systems. A key area of focus will be microgrid solutions for sectors like data centres and remote infrastructure.
The partnership marks a significant expansion of Toyota’s hydrogen vision in India. After pioneering fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) technology with the Toyota Mirai pilot in 2022 and partnering with Ashok Leyland in 2023 for hydrogen-powered commercial vehicle prototypes, this new step broadens the scope from mobility to power generation.
The green hydrogen solutions will support decentralised clean power and industrial decarbonisation. The collaboration is part of Toyota’s global Environmental Challenge 2050 and reinforces its commitment to building a hydrogen-powered ecosystem in India. Both companies aim to provide scalable, localised energy innovations that align with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Notable figures like Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Minister of State Shripad Naik lauded the initiative, calling it crucial for India’s transition to a low-carbon economy. Ohmium’s Chairman Ahmad Chatila and TKM Vice Chairperson Manasi Tata also expressed confidence in the partnership’s potential to lead India’s hydrogen revolution.
This initiative continues Toyota’s multi-pathway approach, which includes past innovations like India’s first BS 6 Stage II Electrified Flex Fuel Vehicle. The MoU signals a bold push to scale up sustainable hydrogen energy systems that support both environmental goals and industrial growth.
