Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched a road safety awareness and health check-up initiative for over 1,250 drivers in Mizoram. This initiative aligns with Road Safety Month (January 18 – February 17, 2025). In response to rising road accidents, the program was inaugurated with Stephen Lalrinawma, Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Aizawl, and other key stakeholders.
Mizoram recorded 106 road accidents in 2023 and 124 in 2024. Fatalities rose from 96 to 112. Over-speeding, traffic violations, and weak enforcement are major causes. To address these issues, TKM collaborates with local authorities to educate commercial drivers on responsible driving and health.

Key Components of the Initiative:
- Road Safety Awareness Sessions: Drivers receive education on traffic rules, penalties, vehicle insurance, and overall well-being.
- Comprehensive Health Check-ups: Medical screenings identify issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, eyesight, and hearing problems. Drivers receive health advice and referrals when necessary.
Additionally, authorities are installing 34 ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) units and 20 CCTV cameras at key locations. These enhancements improve traffic monitoring and enforcement.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Aizawl, Stephen Lalrinawma stressed the need for driver responsibility. He noted that 68% of accidents result from negligence. He urged commercial drivers to maintain vehicle fitness and follow safe driving practices.
Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President – Corporate Affairs and Governance at TKM, emphasized Toyota’s dedication to road safety. The company’s awareness programs and health initiatives aim to improve driving behavior.
TKM also marked the second successful year of its Toyota Safety Education Program (TSEP) and a 24-hour Toyota Hackathon in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. These initiatives focus on road safety, community engagement, and technological solutions for safer roads.
