Genpact (NYSE:G), a global advanced technology services and solutions company, has partnered with WWF-India and the Watershed Organization Trust (WOTR) to tackle climate change and promote sustainability in India.
With WWF-India, Genpact aims to restore the ecological health of the Chambal-Yamuna River system. The project will enhance biodiversity and support conservation efforts. In addition, the collaboration with WOTR focuses on improving climate resilience in Rajasthan through community-led water harvesting and sustainable farming.
“Climate action is not just an environmental issue; it’s a social and economic imperative,” said Piyush Mehta, CHRO and Country Manager, India, Genpact. “As a company committed to environmental and social impact, these partnerships align with our sustainability goals.”
The WWF-India project will revitalise the Chambal-Yamuna River basin, a crucial freshwater ecosystem. It supports 77% of the global breeding gharial population and is home to India’s national aquatic animal, the Ganga River dolphin. Expected outcomes include:
- Improved water security for 50,000 farmers.
- A rise in river dolphin and gharial populations along an 80-km river stretch.
- Conservation of a 5,000 sq. km landscape to safeguard biodiversity.
- A multi-stakeholder framework for long-term conservation.
“The Chambal River plays a crucial role in the health of the Ganga,” said Ravi Singh, Secretary General & CEO, WWF-India. “This initiative will engage local communities, government bodies, and the National Mission for Clean Ganga to develop valuable insights and strengthen conservation efforts.”
In Rajasthan’s drought-prone Karauli region, Genpact’s support will help WOTR:
- Create and restore water harvesting structures with a capacity of 128 million litres.
- Introduce climate-resilient farming techniques to help 1,600 farmers boost crop productivity by 30%.
“WOTR’s partnership with Genpact exemplifies a structured approach to climate resilience,” said Prakash Keskar, Executive Director, WOTR. “By integrating water conservation and sustainable agriculture, we address water scarcity while empowering farmers.”
These initiatives reinforce Genpact’s commitment to sustainability and climate action.
