Maha Shivaratri, a special festival to honour Lord Shiva, will be celebrated on 26 February 2025. It’s a day when people come together to pray, fast, and perform rituals to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.
On this day, many people observe the Char Prahar Puja, which divides the night into four parts, each dedicated to praying. Jalabhishek, which involves offering water to the Shiva Lingam, and Kumbh Shahi Snan, a holy bath, are also important rituals.
The best time for the puja is from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, but you can also worship throughout the night. Fasting and staying awake is an important part of the celebration, as it’s believed to bring peace and spiritual growth.
Devotees usually prepare by cleaning their home, offering fruits and flowers, and using bilva leaves for the worship. Chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” is another way people show their devotion throughout the night.
The Char Prahar Puja starts after sunset and goes until dawn, with prayers in each of the four segments. People believe this ritual helps remove problems, bring luck, and bring them closer to Lord Shiva.
