The Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, recently highlighted India’s transformation, asserting that the nation is now captivating the world with its vast potential. Delivering the Fourth P. Parameswaran Memorial Lecture in Thiruvananthapuram, he underlined India’s rapid development, inclusive policies, and growing influence on the global stage.
A Decade of Transformation: The Vice President emphasised that India’s policies are people-centric, ensuring transparency and accountability. He pointed out the significant changes in rural areas, with improved sanitation, electricity, gas connections, and digital connectivity. These advancements are reshaping the nation, making it a beacon of development.
India’s Inclusive Growth Model: Highlighting India’s economic resurgence, Dhankhar described the country’s progress as an “economic renaissance.” He noted that the government’s efforts ensure benefits reach everyone, regardless of religion, caste, or background. This approach aligns with India’s cultural ethos of inclusivity and non-discrimination.
Demographic Concerns and Electoral Challenges: Dhankhar raised concerns about demographic shifts that could destabilise the nation. He stressed that demographic changes should be organic and not influenced by external forces. According to him, certain regions have become electoral “fortresses” where outcomes are predetermined due to demographic changes. He urged policymakers and citizens to address this growing issue.
Addressing Illegal Migration: Illegal migration poses a serious challenge, affecting employment, healthcare, and education. The Vice President warned that unchecked migration could influence electoral outcomes and impact national security. He called for urgent measures to regulate migration and protect India’s cultural and demographic fabric.
The Rising Concern of Religious Conversions: Dhankhar also expressed concern over religious conversions, stating that inducements and financial support are being used to influence vulnerable communities. While religious freedom is a fundamental right, he cautioned against exploitative tactics that manipulate people in distress.
Political Polarisation and National Interest: The Vice President lamented the increasing political divide in the country. He stressed that polarisation and divisive politics distract from core national and civilisational values. According to him, the focus should be on dialogue, cooperation, and consensus, rather than ideological conflicts.
Restoring Parliamentary Integrity: Dhankhar criticised disruptions in Parliament, calling it a “sacrilege” against democracy. He urged lawmakers to uphold parliamentary traditions and ensure meaningful debate and discussion. He emphasised that a strong democracy relies on a functional and responsible legislature.
The Need for National Awareness: With rising challenges, Dhankhar called for greater public awareness. He urged citizens to recognise and address issues like demographic changes, illegal migration, and religious conversions.
