The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has launched the National Youth Parliament Scheme (NYPS) 2.0, expanding participation beyond educational institutions to include all citizens, irrespective of background.
Key Participation Categories:
- Institution Participation: Educational institutions can organise Youth Parliament sessions. Students from classes VI to XII can join the “Kishore Sabha,” while undergraduate and postgraduate students can participate in the “Tarun Sabha.”
- Group Participation: Any group of citizens can conduct Youth Parliament sittings following guidelines on the NYPS portal.
- Individual Participation: Citizens can engage individually by taking a quiz themed ‘Bharatiya Democracy in Action.’
The ministry has promoted NYPS 2.0 among stakeholders like Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, universities, and colleges through national platforms such as Prize Distribution Functions and Orientation Courses. They have also reached out to Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories, as well as Legislative Assemblies and Councils, to enhance participation.
This initiative aims to strengthen the roots of democracy, instil discipline, encourage tolerance of diverse views, and enhance citizens’ understanding of parliamentary practices, government functioning, and constitutional values.
