Nestlé India has launched a tech-driven, automated, and paperless Distribution Center (DC) in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. This new facility is designed to raise industry benchmarks in warehousing, sustainability, and efficiency.
India’s First Digital Twin in Nestlé Network
The Bhiwandi DC is Nestlé India’s first warehouse to feature a Digital Twin, a virtual simulation tool. It helps plan and test different operational scenarios before execution, improving preparedness.
The facility is also equipped with:
- AI-enabled CCTV cameras
- A digital rack inspection system
- Sensor-based material handling equipment
- An Operations Command Hub for real-time tracking
All systems work in sync to boost safety, control, and planning.
Built in Record Time
The center was completed in just seven months. It has 20,000 pallet positions and houses the largest cold room for chocolate storage in Nestlé’s India network. It also includes a dedicated repacking area and India’s first shuttle racking system, which improves space use through dense storage.
All operations are fully digital, eliminating the need for paper.
Boosting Sustainability Goals
Nestlé has also taken a step towards sustainability. About 25% of cargo on the Sanand–Bhiwandi route now runs on alternate fuel. This helps reduce emissions and increase efficiency.
A Logistics Operations Competence Center and the Operations Command Hub support further integration of sustainability into Nestlé’s logistics chain.
Nestlé says these advancements are part of a broader strategy to improve logistics through automation, digitisation, and cleaner fuel use. The company plans to expand the use of alternate fuel vehicles on this key supply route.
