AI-Powered Breakthrough: First-Ever Human Pregnancy Achieved Using STAR System
Columbia University reports world’s first successful pregnancy aided by artificial intelligence, bringing hope to couples battling male infertility.
In a major scientific milestone, doctors at Columbia University Fertility Center have announced the first pregnancy achieved through artificial intelligence. The patient, part of a clinical trial, had struggled with infertility for 19 years, undergoing 15 failed IVF attempts before success with the STAR AI system.
Developed over five years by Dr Zev Williams and his team, the STAR (Sperm Tracking and Recovery) system addresses azoospermia—a condition where no sperm is detectable in semen. Traditionally, this left couples with limited options, often relying on donor sperm. STAR changes that. It uses an AI algorithm combined with a fluidic chip to scan and isolate viable sperm, even in severely compromised samples.
The technology channels semen through a microscopic tube. If sperm is found, the AI directs them into a separate collection chamber. These rare cells can then be preserved or used directly for fertilisation, opening new doors for reproductive medicine.
Strawberry Moon sets record for lowest full moon until 2043
June’s full ‘Strawberry Moon’ appeared exceptionally low and red-orange, making it the most striking since 2006, with the next occurrence not until 2043.
June’s full moon, traditionally known as the “Strawberry Moon” due to its timing with the strawberry harvest, graced the night sky on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 June. It stood out because it was the lowest-hanging full moon since 2006, a phenomenon caused by a rare “major lunar standstill” that occurs every 18.6 years and will not be seen again until 2043.
When the moon hovered near the horizon, atmospheric light scattering lent it a reddish or orange tint enhancing the “strawberry” effect. Observers across the Northern Hemisphere captured its glow in stunning photos. In India, it peaked at about 5:30 AM IST; elsewhere, peak illumination occurred at 3:44 AM EDT on 11 June.
Astronomers and sky‑watchers praised the event as a “once‑in‑decades” spectacle, with its deep hues and low position ideal for photography and leisurely stargazing.

Housefull 5 Sparks Outcry Over Animated Parrot Abuse in Comedy Sequence
A violent scene featuring a digitally created parrot beaten by the film’s leads has drawn criticism for turning animal cruelty into crude humour.
Housefull 5 includes a graphic scene in which three male protagonists—played by Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh—violently assault a CGI parrot named Gucci. The bird is subjected to repeated physical violence: body‑slammed, struck with frying pans, beaten against walls, nearly burned and sucked into a vacuum cleaner.
The parrot’s character is presented as a revenge‑seeking incarnation from previous series instalments. Filmmakers apparently intended slapstick comedy; however, the scene has instead caused discomfort among viewers. The well‑executed digital effects amplify the sense of brutality rather than downplay it.
Critics argue that depicting animated animal violence as humour risks normalising cruelty, and note the irony of real‑animal welfare concerns in India. By staging such overt violence—even towards a fictional bird—the film’s creators have drawn scrutiny over the message being circulated in mainstream comedy.

Khaby Lame Departs US After Visa Overstay, Avoids Formal Deportation
TikTok’s biggest star, Khaby Lame, left the US after being detained by ICE for overstaying his visa but received voluntary departure to preserve future entry rights.
Khaby Lame (real name Seringe Khabane Lame), a Senegalese-born Italian influencer with over 162 million TikTok followers, was briefly detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on 6 June for allegedly overstaying his visa. The 25 year‑old entered the US on 30 April and exceeded his visa’s permitted stay.
ICE granted him voluntary departure the same day, allowing him to exit without receiving a formal deportation order—which would have triggered a ban of up to ten years. Lame complied and has since left the country.
The incident occurred amid an intensified immigration enforcement campaign under former President Trump, including high-profile raids in US cities. Lame has not publicly commented. He remains UNICEF goodwill ambassador and a judge on Italia’s Got Talent.
Haryana Youth Detained at Newark Airport Over Illegal Entry, Set for Deportation
A young man from Haryana was detained at Newark Airport after being found to have entered the US illegally, and will be deported to India once medically cleared.
Indian External Affairs Ministry sources confirmed to the Indian Consulate in New York that the man, speaking in a Haryanvi accent, did not hold a valid visa and will be deported under a US court order . Videos posted on X showed him handcuffed, crying and restrained at Newark Liberty International Airport earlier this week.
During transit checks, officials judged his behaviour “not conducive for travel,” prompting restraint and medical admission. The Indian Consulate has remained in contact with US authorities, and the man will be returned once he is declared fit for travel.
The Ministry of External Affairs had previously raised the issue with the US Embassy in Delhi following publication of the strains of the viral video. No further details have been provided on his identity or planned deportation logistics.
HC Grants Bail to Gali Janardhan Reddy, Stays Conviction in Obulapuram Mining Case
Telangana High Court has granted interim bail and suspended the seven-year sentence of Karnataka MLA Gali Janardhan Reddy, allowing him to retain his assembly seat.
The Telangana High Court on Wednesday granted interim bail to former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and ordered a stay on his conviction by the CBI special court, which had sentenced him to seven years for illegal mining in the Obulapuram case. Justice K. Lakshman delivered the verdict following arguments presented on June 9.
Senior counsel S Nagamuthu had urged the court to lift Reddy’s disqualification as MLA, noting that the Karnataka Assembly Secretary declared his Gangavathi seat vacant on 8 May and the Election Commission planned a by-election. With the stay in place, Reddy can continue serving as an MLA.
The conviction, handed down on 6 May, related to massive illegal iron ore extraction by Obulapuram Mining Company, allegedly causing a revenue loss of Rs 884 crore. Alongside Reddy, three co-accused BV Srinivasa Reddy, VD Rajagopal and K Mehfuz Ali Khan were also granted bail. The High Court has posted the final hearing for a later date, allowing the matter to proceed without triggering a by-election.
