BITS Design School has entered into a five-year articulation agreement with RMIT University in Melbourne, opening an international study pathway for selected students pursuing design education in Mumbai.
Under the agreement, students who complete the first two years of the Bachelor of Design (Honours) programme at BITS Design School’s Mumbai campus will have the opportunity to move to RMIT University and complete a Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours) degree. The arrangement also allows students to carry forward the academic credits they have already earned during their studies at BITS Design School.
The partnership provides students with an opportunity to continue their design education in an international academic environment while building on the foundation they have developed during the first two years of their programme.
Five Students Each Year
A maximum of five students will be eligible to join RMIT University through the articulation arrangement each year. This limited intake is designed for selected students who meet the requirements of the pathway and wish to continue their studies in Melbourne.
After joining RMIT University, eligible students will receive 192 credit points towards the programme. They will then continue their studies through advanced areas of industrial design, giving them the opportunity to develop their academic and practical understanding of the discipline.
The programme will include Design Studio, the Design Honours Project and one of four major specialisations. These components will allow students to work on design projects and explore a specific area of interest as they progress towards completing their degree.
From Mumbai to Melbourne
For students beginning their design education in Mumbai, the agreement creates a structured route to continue their undergraduate studies at an established international university. Instead of starting the programme again, eligible students can carry forward the credits earned during their first two years.
The pathway also reflects the growing importance of international exposure in design education. Design students often work across disciplines, cultures and industries, making exposure to different academic environments a useful part of their learning experience.
The opportunity to study in Melbourne can also give selected students the chance to experience a different design ecosystem while continuing the same broader academic journey.
Building Design Careers
The articulation agreement brings together the academic pathway of BITS Design School and RMIT University’s Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours) programme. For students interested in industrial design, the arrangement provides a clear progression from foundational study in Mumbai to advanced undergraduate learning in Melbourne.
The programme’s focus on Design Studio, an Honours Project and specialised areas can give students opportunities to apply classroom learning to design projects and develop their individual areas of interest.
With the five-year agreement now in place, selected BITS Design School students will have an international route available to them after completing the first two years of their Bachelor of Design (Honours) programme.
