What if a simple walk through a forest could take you closer to India’s wildlife, traditions, history and the people shaping its future? Visitors to Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar will soon get an opportunity to experience something along these lines.
A new attraction named the ‘Trail of United India’ is set to open near the Statue of Unity on October 31. Spread across 2.62 kilometres, this forest eco-trail will offer visitors an opportunity to explore India’s natural beauty and cultural diversity through themed exhibits, artistic sculptures and outdoor experiences. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the attraction on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, which marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Developed in Limdi village by the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SoUADTGA), the project brings together two important aspects of India’s identity: its natural surroundings and its rich cultural heritage.
Five Zones, Five Stories of India
The Trail of United India has been designed around five thematic zones, each representing an important part of the country’s identity. These include wildlife and nature, youth, women’s empowerment, heritage and spirituality.
Through themed exhibits and artistic sculptures, visitors will get a glimpse of India’s natural wealth, social progress, cultural heritage and spiritual traditions. Each zone will offer a different perspective on the country while bringing the larger message of ‘Unity in Diversity’ to life.
For families visiting the area, the trail could become more than an outdoor outing. Parents can introduce children to India’s traditions, discuss the importance of protecting wildlife and help them understand how different communities and cultures contribute to the country’s identity.
The zones dedicated to youth and women’s empowerment also bring attention to the people who are shaping India’s present and future.
Where Nature Becomes Part of the Experience
One of the interesting aspects of the project is its forest setting. Surrounded by greenery, the trail is designed to encourage visitors to slow down, explore the natural surroundings and spend time outdoors.
In a time when many travel experiences revolve around vehicles, screens and crowded attractions, a walking trail offers a refreshing change. It gives people an opportunity to enjoy the surroundings at their own pace, notice the beauty of nature and spend meaningful time with family and friends.
Walking tours, trekking and wildlife observation will form part of the experience. The project also aims to create awareness about biodiversity and environmental conservation, helping visitors understand why protecting natural habitats matters.
Designed for a Comfortable Visit
The eco-trail will include several facilities to make the visit convenient. These include an entrance, parking area, ticket booth and information centre. Visitors will also find a multi-purpose gazebo, bio-toilets, drinking water points, a bamboo watchtower, directional and informational signboards, stone seating areas and trail maps.
These arrangements can make a difference, particularly for families and visitors who wish to spend more time exploring the route. After all, a memorable outdoor experience is not only about what people see but also about how comfortably they can enjoy it.
More Reasons to Explore Ekta Nagar
Over the years, Ekta Nagar has developed into an important tourism destination centred around the Statue of Unity, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The world’s tallest statue has brought visitors from across India and abroad to this part of Gujarat.
The Trail of United India will add another dimension to the destination by combining nature, culture and learning.
Another upcoming attraction is the ₹16-crore Ekta Cruise on the Narmada River. With a passenger capacity of up to 600 people, the cruise is designed to offer comfortable seating, onboard dining and catering facilities, a music system and arrangements for organised events and celebrations. It is expected to provide visitors with another way to experience the Narmada riverfront.
Together, such developments are expected to expand the range of experiences available to tourists and encourage them to spend more time in Ekta Nagar. Increased tourism activity could also create opportunities for nearby communities through local businesses, hospitality and tourism-related employment.
More Than Just a Tourist Attraction
India’s diversity is often experienced through its food, festivals, languages, clothing and traditions. But it is equally visible in its forests, wildlife, historical landmarks and the people who preserve its cultural heritage.
The Trail of United India brings several of these elements together in one destination. Its inauguration on October 31, during the celebrations of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, adds another connection to the idea of national unity associated with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Perhaps the most meaningful part of this experience will be the opportunity to discover something new with every step, whether it is a story from India’s past, a reminder to protect nature or a glimpse of the people shaping its future.
Sometimes, understanding a country does not require travelling thousands of kilometres. It begins with taking the time to explore the stories that make it unique.
