That’s exactly what Library Junction offers—a first-of-its-kind initiative that has transformed a section of one of Mumbai’s busiest railway stations into a free public library for commuters.
Located at the South Concourse of Platform 1 at Churchgate railway station, Library Junction was launched through a collaboration between Western Railway, Project Mumbai and Larsen & Toubro (L&T). The initiative aims to make reading a part of everyday travel by giving commuters easy access to books while they wait for or travel on local trains.
A library in the middle of the daily rush
The library houses over 1,000 books across genres such as fiction, non-fiction, biographies, self-help, children’s literature and books in English, Hindi and Marathi. Commuters can borrow books free of cost and return them later, making it a convenient option for regular travellers.
What makes Library Junction unique is its simple yet meaningful concept—bringing books to people instead of expecting them to visit a traditional library. Many of the books have also been donated by citizens, creating a community-driven space that encourages the habit of reading.
