Singapore-based PTW has partnered with RRP Electronics Ltd to establish India’s first major wafer production line. The move aims to strengthen India’s semiconductor industry and reduce import dependency.
India’s semiconductor push
PTW, a global leader in semiconductor tool refurbishment, has been monitoring India’s chip industry for years. The company sees India as a key market for semiconductor engineering solutions.
PTW has helped leading foundries worldwide sell proven production lines. It recently assisted Japanese and European firms in transferring their lines to East Asia. Now, PTW has secured RRP Electronics’ interest in setting up a wafer production facility in India.
Big investment, Bigger gains
The new plant will generate over $1.2 billion in revenue at full capacity, with a gross profit margin exceeding 60%. The facility is expected to cut India’s reliance on imported chips and align with the “Make in India” vision.
Future expansion plans
PTW plans to sell two more production lines to Indian firms in the next two years. These sales will cement PTW’s position as a key semiconductor player in India.
RRP Electronics is set to complete the purchase within 2025. Pilot production will begin in 2025-26, with full-scale operations in two years.
