The Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Surrey, UK. This agreement marks a major step in strengthening international academic collaboration, offering students advanced global education and career opportunities.

Expanding academic pathways

The MoU facilitates two academic pathways for students:

  1. Dual Degree Programme (1+1): Students will complete one year of postgraduate study at MIT Manipal and the second year at the University of Surrey, earning a master’s degree from both institutions.
  2. Integrated Master’s Programme (3.5+0.5+1): Undergraduate students will study for 3.5 years at MIT Manipal, followed by a six-month capstone project under Surrey’s supervision and a final year at the University of Surrey to earn their master’s degree.
Collaboration for innovation and research

The MoU focuses on specialised disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, chemical, and electronic engineering. It aims to integrate advanced research resources, world-class faculty, and global networking opportunities to align education with international industry standards.

The agreement was signed in the presence of leading representatives from both universities, including:

  • University of Surrey: Prof. Max Lu (President and Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Satheesh Krishnamurthy (Director, Surrey Ion Beam Centre), and Dr. Tina Schilbach (International Partnerships Manager).
