- Record premium turnover recorded in NATURAL GAS options contracts during the week

India’s leading commodity derivatives exchange, Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has recorded turnover of Rs.13,04,934.20 crores in various futures & option contracts for commodities listed at MCX during the week of February 28 to March 6. A movement of 542 points was seen in the March futures of the precious metals index BULLDEX. It is worth mentioning here that during the week, a record premium turnover of Rs.2,273 crore was registered in options contracts of NATURAL GAS on Wednesday, 5th March.
In precious metals futures, GOLD and SILVER witnessed a total turnover of Rs.89,507.57 crore in 8,15,123 trades on MCX during the week. In GOLD contracts, MCX GOLD April futures per 10 gram opened at Rs.84,899, touched an intra-day high of Rs.86,329 and a low of Rs.84,033 during the week and closed the week with a jump of Rs.838 to reach Rs.86,034. GOLD GUINEA March contract rose by Rs.476 to Rs.69,857 per 8 gram and GOLD PETAL March contract rose by Rs.73 to Rs.8,762 per 1 gram. GOLD-MINI April futures opened at Rs.84,960 per 10 gram and rose by Rs.792 to reach Rs.86,002.
In SILVER futures, SILVER May futures per 1 kg opened at Rs.95,113 and touched an intra-day high of Rs.98,324 and a low of Rs.93,852 during the week and closed the week at Rs.98,141, up by Rs.2591. SILVER-MINI April contract rose Rs.2444 to close at Rs.98,052 and SILVER-Micro April contract rose Rs.2,448 to close at Rs.98,060.
In metals futures, MCX witnessed a turnover of Rs.13,061.21 crore in 83,569 trades. ALUMINIUM March futures rose Rs.5.65 per kg to Rs.264.40 and Zinc March futures rose Rs.7.75 to Rs.276. In contrast, Copper March contract rose Rs.26.40 to Rs.890.85 and Lead March contract rose Rs.65 to Rs.182.
In energy segment futures, MCX witnessed a turnover of Rs.50,439.82 crore in 10,28,831 trades. CRUDE OIL March futures opened at Rs.6,127, touched an intra-day high of Rs.6,148 and a low of Rs.5,685 during the week and closed the week down by Rs.351 at Rs.5,784 per barrel, while NATURAL GAS March futures rose by Rs.26.20 to close at Rs.373.90 per 1 MMBTU.
In Agricultural Commodities, MCX witnessed a turnover of Rs.16.61 crore in 367 trades. COTTON CANDY March futures opened at Rs.51,400 per candy, touched an intra-day high of Rs.54,750 and a low of Rs.51,400 during the week and closed the week down by Rs.850 at Rs.52,660. MENTHA OIL futures March contract rose by Rs.4.70 per 1 kg to Rs.932.40.
In terms of trading, among precious metals on MCX, GOLD futures traded 66,321.323 kg worth Rs.56,696.44 crore in 2,33,832 trades and SILVER futures traded 3,401.375 tonnes worth Rs.32,811.13 crore in 5,81,291 trades. In the energy segment, CRUDE OIL futures traded 1,13,00,900 barrels worth Rs.6,658.88 crore in 83,019 trades and NATURAL GAS futures traded 99,27,16,250 MMBTU worth Rs.36,662 crore in 4,47,007 trades. In agricultural commodities, 2640 candies of Rs.3.50 crore were traded in 51 trades in COTTON CANDY futures, 142.2 tons of Rs.13.11 crore were traded in 316 trades in MENTHA OIL contracts.
Open interest at the end of the week stood at 20,857.182 kg in GOLD futures and 896.038 tons in SILVER futures, 895400 barrels in CRUDE OIL and 26222500 MMBTU in NATURAL GAS and 12528 candies in COTTON CANDY, 74.52 tons in MENTHA OIL.
In index futures, 136 lots of Rs.13.66 crore were traded in 132 trades in BULLDEX futures on MCX during the week. Open interest was at 75 lots in BULLDEX futures. BULLDEX March futures opened at 20,200, moved up by 272 points to reach 20,536 with a movement of 542 points.
In options, Options on Futures recorded a notional turnover of Rs.11,51,895.33 crore in 92,71,686 trades on MCX. Call and put options of GOLD traded for Rs.3,15,444.05 crore, call and put options of SILVER and SILVER-MINI traded for Rs.13,233.86 crore. In the energy segment options, call and put options of CRUDE OIL traded for Rs.6,17,740.48 crore, and call and put options of NATURAL GAS traded for Rs.1,91,410.75 crore.
