Crude Oil futures gain 3.4%, MCXBULLDEX closes at 26676; MCX weekly turnover at ₹3.41 lakh cr in Futures and ₹43.56 lakh cr in Options

During the week of September 19 to 25, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), India’s leading commodity derivatives exchange, recorded a total turnover of Rs.46,98,027.97 crore in various commodity futures, options, and index futures. Commodity futures accounted for Rs.3,41,328.28 crore in trading, while commodity options recorded a notional turnover of Rs.43,56,684.29 crore. The bullion index Bulldex October futures reached 26,676 points. The total premium turnover in commodity options was Rs.24,853.48 crore.

Notably, new records were set in silver futures and options trading by the end of the week. On Thursday, September 25, silver futures across all contracts recorded a turnover of Rs.35,081 crore, with silver-mini (5 kg) futures at Rs.9,036 crore and silver-micro (1 kg) futures at Rs.5,218 crore, marking new records post the implementation of CTT (Commodity Transaction Tax). Additionally, silver (30 kg) options contracts saw a record turnover of Rs.850,177 crore with 66,244 tonnes traded, and silver-mini (5 kg) options contracts recorded Rs.158,655 crore in trading.

Earlier, on Tuesday, September 23, gold (1 kg) futures recorded Rs.31,985 crore, gold-mini (100 grams) futures Rs.13,599 crore, gold-guinea (8 grams) futures Rs.262 crore, gold-petal (1 gram) futures Rs.570 crore with 497 kg traded, and gold-ten (10 grams) futures Rs.423 crore with 370 kg traded, all marking record turnovers post-CTT. Additionally, gold-mini (100 grams) options contracts recorded a high of Rs.170,940 crore with 151 tonnes traded.

During the week under review, precious metals saw Rs.287,290.49 crore in trading in gold and silver futures. MCX Gold October futures opened at Rs.109,254 per 10 grams, hit an all-time high of Rs.114,179 and a low of Rs.109,066 intra-day, closing at Rs.112,629 with a weekly gain of Rs.3,577 compared to the previous close of Rs.109,052. Gold-guinea October futures touched an all-time high of Rs.92,999 per 8 grams, closing at Rs.91,411 with a gain of Rs.3,176. Gold-petal October futures reached an all-time high of Rs.11,535, closing at Rs.11,422 per 1 gram with a gain of Rs.382. Gold-mini October futures touched an all-time high of Rs.114,150 per 10 grams, closing at Rs.112,606 with a gain of Rs.3,655. Gold-ten October futures opened at Rs.109,993 per 10 grams, hit an all-time high of Rs.114,775 and a low of Rs.109,801 intra-day, closing at Rs.113,685 with a gain of Rs.3,880 compared to the previous close of Rs.109,805.

In silver futures, Silver December futures opened at Rs.127,500 per kg, hit an all-time high of Rs.137,530 and a low of Rs.127,500 intra-day, closing at Rs.137,056 with a significant weekly gain of Rs.9,924 compared to the previous close of Rs.127,132. Silver-mini November futures touched an all-time high of Rs.137,451, closing at Rs.137,052 with a gain of Rs.9,941. Silver-micro November futures reached an all-time high of Rs.137,444, closing at Rs.136,985 with a gain of Rs.9,879.

In base metals, trading worth Rs.17,709.18 crore was recorded. Copper October futures rose by Rs.34.9, closing at Rs.943.7 per kg. Zinc October futures gained Rs.3.05, closing at Rs.284.9 per kg. Aluminium October futures fell by Rs.5.5, closing at Rs.256.15 per kg. Lead October futures dropped by 10 paise, closing at Rs.183.25 per kg.

In the energy segment, trading worth Rs.36,287.41 crore was recorded. MCX Electricity October futures opened at Rs.3,990 per MWh, hit a high of Rs.4,003 and a low of Rs.3,843 intra-day, closing at Rs.3,874 with a decline of Rs.122. Crude Oil October futures opened at Rs.5,574 per barrel, hit a high of Rs.5,783 and a low of Rs.5,462 intra-day, closing at Rs.5,773 with a gain of Rs.190 compared to the previous close of Rs.5,583. Crude Oil-mini October futures rose by Rs.186, closing at Rs.5,773. Natural Gas October futures fell by Rs.2.9, closing at Rs.283.4 per MMBtu. Natural Gas-mini October futures dropped by Rs.3, closing at Rs.283.5.

In agricultural commodities, Mentha Oil October futures opened at Rs.1,004 per kg, falling by Rs.23 to close at Rs.980.9. Cardamom October futures opened at Rs.2,490 per kg, declining by Rs.22 to close at Rs.2,446.

In terms of trading volume, during the week under review, MCX recorded Rs.1,66,775.10 crore in various gold futures and Rs.120,515.39 crore in various silver futures. Copper futures saw Rs.11,718.53 crore, aluminium and aluminium-mini futures Rs.2,065.67 crore, lead and lead-mini futures Rs.235.88 crore, and zinc and zinc-mini futures Rs.3,677.08 crore in trading. Electricity futures recorded Rs.122.70 crore, crude oil and crude oil-mini futures Rs.6,445.85 crore, natural gas and natural gas-mini futures Rs.29,718.86 crore, mentha oil futures Rs.35.16 crore, and cardamom futures Rs.6.04 crore in trading.

Open interest at the end of the week stood at 3,349 lots for gold futures, 11,213 lots for gold-mini futures, 9,459 lots for gold-guinea futures, 119,293 lots for gold-petal futures, and 11,516 lots for gold-ten futures. Silver futures had 17,394 lots, silver-mini futures 35,637 lots, and silver-micro futures 104,451 lots. Electricity futures had 601 lots, crude oil futures 10,879 lots, and natural gas futures 25,090 lots.

Regarding index futures, Bulldex October futures opened at 25,550 points, hit a high of 26,814 points and a low of 25,550 points intra-day, gaining 1,126 points to close at 26,676 points.
