Israeli Strike Kills Iran’s IRGC Intelligence Chief in Tehran
In a sharp escalation, Israeli airstrikes have reportedly eliminated a leading Iranian military figure.
Brigadier‑General Mohammad Kazemi, head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organisation, was killed in Israeli airstrikes on Tehran on Sunday, according to both Iranian state media and the Israeli prime minister’s office. His deputy was also killed during the attack, which targeted an IRGC intelligence facility.
The strike forms part of Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion,” aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear, missile, and intelligence infrastructure. Iran’s Health Ministry reports at least 78 deaths, including senior military officials and numerous civilians.
Israel’s military stated additional raids hit over 200 sites across Iran, including underground nuclear installations in Natanz and command centres for the IRGC’s aerospace and intelligence branches.

A Lufthansa Dreamliner flight LH752 travelling from Frankfurt to Hyderabad made an unexpected U‑turn mid-air and returned to Frankfurt on Sunday, following a suspected bomb threat communicated via social media, according to airline and airport officials. The Boeing 787‑9 had departed Frankfurt at around 14:29 CEST but was forced to divert before entering Indian airspace.
Upon its return, all passengers were safely accommodated in Frankfurt overnight, with the journey to Hyderabad rescheduled for Monday. Authorities confirmed that no explosives were found after inspection, and investigations into the origin of the threat are ongoing.
India Launches Feasibility Study for 113 km Indus Link Canal
India moves ahead on inter‑basin water transfers to maximise use of Indus systems.
The government has initiated a feasibility study for a 113 km canal that will divert surplus water from Jammu & Kashmir’s Chenab River to Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. This ambitious plan aims to link the Chenab with the Ravi–Beas–Sutlej network, improving irrigation and regional water security.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that, within three years, water from the Indus (Sindhu) will reach Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, enhancing agricultural output while leveraging India’s full entitlement under the Indus Waters Treaty. The project could also revive the Ujh multipurpose scheme in J&K’s Kathua district.
Officials say the canal will connect at least 13 existing canal structures across the four states. Alongside this, India is fast‑tracking storage and running‑of‑river hydropower schemes. The objective: fully utilise eastern rivers and harness the nation’s share in western Indus waters reducing flows to Pakistan.
Pune Bridge Collapse Leaves 4 Dead and 51 Injured
A dilapidated pedestrian bridge collapsed over the Indrayani River near Pune during heavy rainfall, triggering a large-scale rescue mission.
On Sunday afternoon, a 30-year-old iron-and-concrete footbridge near Kundamala in Pune’s Maval tehsil collapsed while crowded with tourists watching the swollen river. The incident occurred around 3:30 pm amid continuous heavy rain.
Rescue efforts, led by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and fire services, managed to recover four bodies, one of whom was a five-year-old and evacuate at least 51 injured individuals. Eight victims remain in critical condition.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that financial assistance of ₹5 lakh will be provided to each bereaved family, with all medical costs covered by the state government. Authorities noted that despite the bridge’s condemned status and warning signs, pedestrians and even two-wheelers continued to use it.
