India has launched a series of airstrikes, dubbed Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This decisive action comes in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, where 26 civilians, including a Nepali national, lost their lives .
Precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure
The Indian Armed Forces executed the operation using advanced weaponry, including precision-guided munitions and loitering drones. The strikes focused on dismantling infrastructure linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen . Indian officials emphasized that the operation was a measured response aimed solely at neutralizing terrorist threats.
Pakistan’s response and rising tensions
Pakistan reported civilian casualties and condemned the strikes as an “act of war,” claiming to have shot down several Indian aircraft—a claim not confirmed by India . The situation has led to heightened military alertness on both sides, with cross-border artillery exchanges reported in regions like Poonch.
Nationwide Civil Defence Drills amid escalation
In anticipation of potential escalations, India conducted Operation Abhyaas, a nationwide civil defence drill on May 7. The exercise spanned 244 districts, including major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai . Activities included air raid siren tests, blackout simulations, and evacuation drills to enhance emergency preparedness.
International community urges restraint
Global leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, have expressed concern over the escalating tensions and urged both nations to exercise restraint to prevent further deterioration of regional stability.
