Mumbai, 13 March 2026: Tata Motors has secured cumulative orders for more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis from multiple State Transport Undertakings (STUs) across India. The orders reaffirm the company’s strong position in the country’s commercial passenger vehicle segment and highlight its continued role in strengthening India’s public transport infrastructure.
The contracts were awarded through a competitive e-bidding process under the government procurement system. Deployment of the buses will take place in phases, according to timelines agreed with the respective state transport authorities. These large-scale orders underline the growing demand for reliable and efficient public mobility solutions across India.
The orders have been placed by several key state transport bodies including Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation and Kerala State Road Transport Corporation. Additional orders have also been placed by the Department of Road Transport operating Haryana Roadways and the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking.
The orders include a wide range of buses and bus chassis from Tata Motors’ commercial passenger vehicle portfolio. Models involved in the supply include Tata Magna, Tata Cityride, Tata Starbus, Tata Starbus Prime, along with chassis variants such as Tata LPO 1618, LPO 1622 and LPO 1822. These vehicles are configured for intercity, long-haul and intracity operations and are designed to deliver reliable performance, passenger comfort and efficient operating economics across varied terrains and duty cycles.
