Western Railway commuters brace for a bumpy ride this weekend.
Western Railway (WR) will cancel over 163 train services between 26 and 28 April. This is due to urgent bridge work on the Parle-Ghatkopar rail overbridge.
The cancellations and short-terminations are part of a 36-hour mega block on the slow lines between Churchgate and Goregaon. This temporary disruption aims to facilitate crucial pre-non-interlocking work for bridge reconstruction.
What’s affected?
A total of 117 services have been cancelled, including:
- 54 Churchgate-bound slow trains.
- 63 Borivali/Virar-bound slow trains.
Additionally:
- 40 trains will be short-terminated at either Bandra or Goregaon.
- 6 services will be short-originated from Goregaon instead of Churchgate.
The affected dates:
- Friday night to early Sunday morning (April 26–28).
Why the disruption?
The Parle-Ghatkopar road overbridge, located between Vile Parle and Santacruz, is undergoing reconstruction. The existing girders need to be dismantled, followed by new installations. This is essential for long-term commuter safety.
Block timings
- Start: 23:00 hrs on Friday, April 26
- End: 15:00 hrs on Sunday, April 28
The work will take place on both up and down slow lines. During this time, services will operate on limited tracks.
Commuter alternatives
Western Railway has advised commuters to:
- Use fast trains wherever possible.
- Switch to Metro Line 2A or 7.
- Opt for BEST buses between Churchgate, Bandra, and Borivali.
Extra staff will be deployed to assist passengers. Announcements will be made at stations and on digital platforms.
