Train disruptions between Kandivali and Borivali from April 26 to 28
If you are planning to travel on Mumbai’s Western Railway line this weekend, you will want to keep this in mind. A major engineering project is scheduled between Kandivali and Borivali stations, and it’s going to affect train services for nearly three days.
Starting at 1pm on Friday, 26 April, and continuing till midnight on Sunday, 28 April, Western Railway will carry out a 35-hour block to upgrade Bridge No 61. This block will see the replacement of girders on the 5th line, the Kandivali Carshed line, and the eastern yard line.
Now, this is no small job. It’s part of a larger plan to boost the capacity of Mumbai’s rail network so that more trains can run in the future. But yes, while the work’s important, it will come with its share of inconvenience.
Which train services are affected?
A total of 163 train services will be cancelled over the three-day period. Here’s how it breaks down:
- 73 services will be cancelled on Friday, 26
- 90 more will be cancelled on Saturday, 27 April
The good news? The main Slow and Fast lines will remain operational, so regular suburban trains will still run on those routes. According to WR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Vineet Abhishek, this has helped reduce the overall number of train cancellations.
Changes to long-distance trains too
It’s not just local trains that are affected. Some long-distance trains will also face changes. Four services will either start from or end at alternate stations like Bhayandar or Vasai instead of their usual points. Meanwhile, Mail and Express trains that typically use the 5th line will be rerouted to Fast lines to avoid delays.
This upgrade is part of a broader effort to strengthen Mumbai’s rail infrastructure. By replacing older bridge components now, Western Railway is paving the way for additional rail lines and more train services in the future. As per WR insiders, this work is key to improving train movement on one of the city’s busiest stretches.
So if you are a daily commuter or planning a weekend train journey, it’s best to check the updated train schedule in advance and plan accordingly.
