BrahMos Missile Unit Kicks Off Full-Throttle in Lucknow
India has opened a cutting-edge BrahMos missile production facility in Lucknow. This new unit marks a major push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
The factory will produce 100 to 150 missiles each year. It’s a key project under the UP Defence Industrial Corridor. It will also handle design, development, and testing, especially for the upcoming BrahMos-NG version.
Not Just a Missile, But a Message
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called BrahMos more than a missile—a clear signal to the world. He said it reflects India’s growing technological edge and commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat.
What is BrahMos-NG?
Former BrahMos Aerospace CEO Sudhir Kumar Mishra revealed that the Lucknow unit will help develop the next-gen version: BrahMos-NG. This model will be lighter, faster, and air-launch capable. It can be mounted on fighter jets and smaller naval platforms.
Code Name: Operation Sindoor
Officials have dubbed this massive production push “Operation Sindoor.” It reflects India’s intent to ramp up missile numbers rapidly—relevant amid rising tensions with both China and Pakistan.
Global Eyes on BrahMos
Several friendly nations have shown interest in buying BrahMos missiles. The Indo-Russian missile is one of the fastest in the world, cruising at Mach 2.8 to 3.
The missile is already deployed by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. This Lucknow unit is expected to boost both capacity and export readiness.
Economic Boost for Uttar Pradesh
The plant is also set to create hundreds of skilled jobs. It will draw suppliers and tech firms to the region, strengthening Lucknow’s role in India’s defence ecosystem.
