As Bihar gears up for its 2025 Assembly elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has unveiled a bold promise to create 1 crore government jobs for the people of the state. The announcement was made in the NDA’s election manifesto released in Patna, positioning employment and women’s empowerment at the centre of its campaign.
A landmark pledge for Bihar’s youth
Unemployment has long been one of Bihar’s biggest challenges. The NDA’s commitment to generate 1 crore government jobs aims to bring relief to thousands of young aspirants who migrate every year to other states in search of work.
According to the manifesto, these jobs will be created across various sectors, including education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and public services. The government plans to fill vacancies at both state and central levels, with a focus on long-term employment rather than short-term contracts.
The move is expected to directly appeal to young voters and first-time job seekers, who form a significant portion of Bihar’s electorate.
Women empowerment: ‘Lakhpati Didis’ initiative
Alongside the employment push, the NDA also announced an ambitious scheme to make 1 crore women ‘Lakhpati Didis’ women earning at least ₹1 lakh annually.
The plan builds on the success of self-help groups (SHGs) in rural Bihar. Under this scheme, the government aims to expand financial support, market access, and entrepreneurship training to help women become financially independent.
Leaders said the initiative is designed to strengthen women’s participation in Bihar’s rural economy, creating new income opportunities at the village level.
A response to Tejashwi Yadav’s job promise
The NDA’s promise also carries a strong political message. The opposition alliance, led by Tejashwi Yadav’s Mahagathbandhan, had earlier pledged 10 lakh government jobs if elected.
By announcing a tenfold target of 1 crore jobs, the NDA has sought to outmatch the opposition and position itself as the stronger choice for development and employment.
The move has sparked debate across Bihar, with parties arguing over the feasibility and funding of such large-scale job creation.
Focus on skill development and industry
The NDA manifesto highlights a multi-pronged approach to job generation. It plans to link employment schemes with industrial expansion, education reforms, and skill training.
Special attention will be given to small and medium enterprises, start-ups, and manufacturing hubs to ensure sustainable growth. The alliance also promised to maintain transparency in recruitment through digital monitoring systems to prevent corruption.
Public reactions and expert views
Economists and policy experts have welcomed the focus on employment but remain cautious about its execution. Bihar’s limited industrial base and migration trends make such targets difficult without major infrastructure investments.
However, the plan has struck an emotional chord with many families. For millions of young men and women preparing for government exams, the NDA’s promise has become a new symbol of hope.
A campaign centred on opportunity
With this announcement, the NDA has turned the Bihar election into a contest of trust and opportunity. While the opposition is questioning the practicality of the figures, supporters see the manifesto as a roadmap for long-term development.
If implemented effectively, the ‘Jobs for a Million Families’ plan could reshape Bihar’s economic future, empower rural women, and reduce the large-scale migration that has long defined the state’s workforce.
