Bhay – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery, Amazon MX Player’s latest supernatural thriller, has captivated audiences with its emotionally grounded portrayal of India’s first paranormal investigator, Gaurav Tiwari. The series, blending fact and fiction, explores the enigmatic circumstances of Tiwari’s life and untimely death, offering viewers a narrative driven not just by unexplained phenomena, but also by silence, grief, and belief. At the heart of this story is Saloni Batra, who plays Megha, a character that grounds the series’ shifting realities in human emotion.
Sharing her experience on set, Saloni explains the unique challenge of performing in scenes where fear is intangible. “You can’t play the fear or the mystery directly. The audience feels it through the character’s emotional response. A lot of the time, you’re reacting to cues like sudden lights, strange sounds, or shifts in atmosphere, but the honesty has to come from within. Once the technical details are in place, you let yourself immerse fully in the character’s emotions,” she says.
Night shoots and the series’ atmospheric locations added a layer of intensity to her performance. Saloni recalls, “The environment on set becomes part of you. The quiet moments, the shadows, the empty corridors—sometimes the silence felt louder than the dialogue. There were instances where the energy on set felt uncanny, almost otherworldly. Experiencing that while living through Megha’s perspective made the storytelling process far more immersive and real.”
Batra’s portrayal provides the emotional counterpoint to the series’ paranormal elements. While Karan Tacker embodies the titular Gaurav Tiwari and Kalki Koechlin leads the investigative narrative as Irene, Megha serves as the human anchor. Her reactions, choices, and quiet resilience help the audience navigate a world where reality constantly collides with the supernatural, making the tension both relatable and gripping.
The series’ approach has been widely praised for its subtlety. Rather than relying on jump scares or overt theatrics, Bhay – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery focuses on nuanced storytelling, human relationships, and the psychological impact of confronting the unknown. This gives Saloni and the cast an opportunity to explore complex emotional territory, making the horror feel personal and immersive.
Bhay – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery is available to stream for free on Amazon MX Player, accessible via the MX Player app, Amazon shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV, and Airtel Xstream. Through its blend of suspense, human emotion, and paranormal intrigue, the series has established itself as a standout addition to India’s growing library of supernatural dramas.
