A fresh controversy has erupted around the upcoming film The Diary of Manipur, which is reportedly linked to social media personality popularly known as “Kumbh Girl” Monalisa. A formal written complaint has now been submitted at the DN Nagar Police Station in Mumbai, raising serious objections to the film’s alleged content.
The complaint was filed by Chander Kala Singh, President of the Maharashtra State unit of the Global Christian Action Committee (Women). It has been lodged against filmmaker Sanoj Mishra, who is the proprietor of M/s. Sanoj Mishra Films and the director associated with the project.
In her complaint, Singh has alleged that certain aspects of the film hurt the religious sentiments of the Christian community and may promote disharmony among religious groups. She has claimed that the film contains content that is offensive to Christian beliefs and could potentially disturb communal harmony.
According to the complaint submitted to the police, several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 have been cited. These include Sections 295, 295A, 296, 298 and 153A, which deal with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, insulting religious beliefs, causing injury to places of worship, disturbing religious assemblies engaged in worship, and promoting enmity between different religious groups.
Singh has also demanded that the makers immediately remove the film’s teaser from YouTube, alleging that the promotional content is objectionable and offensive to the Christian community.
The controversy has drawn attention from both film circles and social media users, especially because of the film’s association with Monalisa, who gained viral popularity during the recent Kumbh-related coverage online.
Reacting to the complaint, director Sanoj Mishra has dismissed the allegations and suggested that the move may have been motivated by rivals. In a brief statement, Mishra said that the complaint appears to be an indirect attempt to target him and his project.
“This is an indirect attack by my enemies. We believe in the law of this country. We are now consulting our legal team and will respond in a formal manner,” he said.
Police officials at DN Nagar Police Station have confirmed that the complaint has been received and recorded. However, as of now, there has been no public confirmation of an FIR being registered in the matter.
Authorities are expected to examine the complaint and the allegations mentioned before deciding the next legal steps. Meanwhile, the issue has triggered discussions across social and film communities, with many observers waiting to see how the legal process unfolds in the coming days.
