Henkel India has taken another step towards building a more inclusive society by inaugurating a new Skill Development Center at Navkshitij in Marunji, Pune. Established as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the center aims to provide STEM education and vocational skill development for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Designed for students aged 10 years and above, the center offers an environment where learning goes beyond classrooms and focuses on practical, hands-on experiences that promote confidence, independence, and self-reliance. Along with educational facilities, the project also includes a solar-powered infrastructure, reinforcing Henkel India’s commitment to sustainable development.
The Skill Development Center is equipped with machinery and tools that enable participants to learn a variety of vocational skills. Students will receive practical training in activities such as plate making, camphor making, incense stick making, laundry and ironing using washing machines and ironing equipment, as well as creating diyas and pots using specialized molds. These activities are intended to help participants develop employable skills while encouraging creativity and enhancing their ability to perform everyday tasks independently.
Beyond vocational training, the initiative places equal emphasis on STEM education and life-skills development. By combining technical knowledge with practical exposure, the center seeks to prepare participants for greater participation in society and create opportunities for long-term personal growth.
Speaking at the inauguration, Nilesh R Adkar, Head Product Development – General Manufacturing & Maintenance, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, IMEA, highlighted the company’s vision for inclusion.
“Every individual deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society. Through our partnership with Navkshitij, we are creating a platform that nurtures skills, confidence, and self-reliance for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We hope this center will empower participants to explore their abilities, unlock new opportunities, and lead more fulfilling lives,” he said.
The newly developed hall within the center has also been designed as a multipurpose space. It will host cultural programmes, creative workshops, community events, and group engagement sessions, giving participants opportunities to express themselves, collaborate with others, and build meaningful social connections.
The initiative addresses the growing need for continuous learning and skill development for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities after formal schooling. By creating an inclusive learning environment that blends education, vocational training, and community engagement, Henkel India and Navkshitij aim to empower participants with skills that can improve their quality of life while encouraging greater inclusion within society.
