Traveller’s planning to visit the United States or Europe in 2025 must gear up for major regulatory changes. From mandatory digital entry passes to upgraded ID requirements, the world of international travel is about to transform.
Europe Introduces ETIAS from 2025
Europe is set to roll out the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) by mid-2025. This is not a visa but a pre-screening travel authorisation required for travellers from visa-exempt countries, including India.
This means that Indian passport holders planning short trips (up to 90 days) to the 26 Schengen Zone countries will have to register online and get approval before their journey.

• Validity: Three years or until passport expiry
• Age exemptions: Free for under-18s and over-70s
• Approval Time: Minutes to a maximum of 30 days

REAL ID for Domestic US Travel
In the United States, a new ID requirement will be enforced from 7 May 2025. Known as REAL ID, this change impacts domestic air travel and access to certain federal buildings.
While foreign travellers using passports won’t be affected, those living in the US (including Indian-origin residents or dual citizens) must ensure their state-issued IDs comply with REAL ID standards.
