700 Writers, 100 Sessions, and Cultural Shows in Delhi

New Delhi: Sahitya Akademi will host the Festival of Letters 2025 at Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi, from 7 to 12 March. The event will feature over 700 writers from 50+ languages.

Major Highlights

Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will inaugurate the event. Playwright Mahesh Dattani will be the chief guest at the award ceremony. Writer Upamanyu Chatterjee will deliver the Samvatsar Lecture.

The festival will present the Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages. A National Seminar on Indian Literary Traditions will be held in the last three days.

A Platform for Diverse Voices

The festival will showcase young, women, Dalit, North-East, tribal, and LGBTQ writers. Many poets, translators, and publishers will also participate. This event has been India’s most inclusive literary festival since 1985.

Events and Performances

The final day will feature ‘Spin A Tale,’ a special programme for children. Throughout the festival, writers will hold discussions, readings, and presentations.

Cultural performances will take place on three evenings. Notable artists include:

  • Rakesh Chaurasia (flute recital)
  • Nalini Joshi (Hindustani vocal)
  • Fouzia Dastango and Ritesh Yadav (Dastan-e-Mahabharata)

The festival is free for all literature lovers.
