In a significant development, Hamas has released three Israeli hostages, including American-Israeli Sagui Dekel-Chen, amidst a fragile ceasefire in Gaza. The hostages, also identified as Iair Horn and Alexander Troufanov, were handed over to the Red Cross in Khan Younis, Gaza. In exchange, Israel has begun releasing 369 Palestinian prisoners, including 36 serving life sentences.
The ceasefire, initiated on January 19, 2025, has faced challenges, notably accusations from Hamas of Israeli violations and controversial proposals from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the resettlement of Palestinians. Despite these tensions, the recent prisoner exchange marks the sixth since the truce began, aiming to maintain the delicate peace and address humanitarian concerns.
